The Australian Bobsleigh Team comprises athletes from a range of sports, including track and field, football, rugby, rowing and cycling. Whilst there is no barrier on who may apply to become a member of the team, selection is based on a criteria which depends on elite ability in both speed and strength. The approach to recruitment of athletes is twofold. Athletes either present themselves for selection who are already of an elite standard in their chosen sport and are able to satisfy the teams selection criteria or they are viewed as development athletes, who, given the right guidance, training and determination may be given the opportunity over a period of time to reach a level which may be competitive on an international level.
